    Hi,

We are having random issues with Symantec Messaging Gateway Version 10.5.4 for some users where email arriving from external senders is blocked and deleted because of language.  The language of the email is English and there is no other language or attachments.  There is also no misspelled words.  This is further complicated because the specific email is addressed to multiple people and at times other users receive the email without problems.  I have tried to adjust the language settings inclusive and not exclusive but I don't want to allow all language because my company does'nt have a need to recieve emails in other languages other than english.   It is being blocked on the default policy group and currently set to 'Do not receive mail in the following languages' and all languages except for english are selected.

This is the only text in the email -

"Per David,  we are going live Jan 18 2016. "

    Thanks

    Mike

    Mike,

    As stated in the help:

Although the language identification technology employed by Symantec Messaging Gateway to identify the language of a message has a high rate of accuracy, false language identifications can occur. Note that messages identified to be written in a disallowed language are deleted.

If you take your example, the beginning "per david": eg google translate detects it as german.

Why are you using language detection?

Thanks for the reply Thomas - to answer your questions, we receive a large amount of spam per day ~200k messages.  I am using the language filter to block those messages that I am absolutely sure we don't need to see (i.e. messages in russian, chinese etc.)  I read another posting that stated the engine needed about 160 words to make a determination on language, so again this further confuses me why these message are getting dropped for this rule.  The message example is only one from the same sender that has been blocked.

If anyone from Symantec is reading, it would be nice to have the language filter applied in content settings.  This would provide more options of what to do with the message, i.e. mark it, or drop it in spam folder.

    Thanks

    Mike

the language filter is not that accurate, say if you block or untick option for Chinese... you'll still receive some

but your case is a bit different....best bet is to open a support case and get them review the issue

most likely they will  modify or do enhancement for this language fitltering
