I don't think, you could do this using  a GPO. Version 11 has lot of differences, and you would have to manually perform the upgrade.

The upgrade  process is not very difficult though:

    1. First install you Ver 11 Server, which is called the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.

    2. Once it is installed, create client install packages, and deploy  to you Ver 10 clients, which will automatically upgrade.

    3. Also deploy a SEP client on your Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager server computer.

The SEP deployment can be done via GPO. It will automatically remove version 10.x and will install 11.x on the machines.

Check the Installation Guide that is in the CD\Documentation folder pg 100

Vikram Kumar is correct. However, in case of a managed environment, you would have to manually install the  Symantec Endpoint  Protection Manager, which is step1, as per my earlier comment. Steps 2 and 3 can be done through GPO.

Plezse spend time developing your plan, testing SEPM install, creating a few packages, and testing manually migrating a client, and then running with a few clients in a development environment.

    SEP is quite different.

In plain English, there is no upgrade process. You're basically going to have to reinstall your entire Protection infrastructure. As a side note, while a majority of your clients can simply run the installer and have the old SAV client removed automatically, you will most likely run into a few clients that have issues that will force you to manually uninstall SAV and install SEP. The installer will ONLY uninstall SAV and it will not uninstall the Client Securities application even though it's based on SAV.

If you happen to be lucky enough to have your entire infrastructure located on a LAN and you don't happen to have a WAN, the SEPM (Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager; the server) has a remote deployment tool that works quite well. Using the remote deployment tool to install over a WAN is... inconvenient to say the least.

    Hi ITmaster,

I strongly encourage all SAV users to upgrade to SEP: here are links to a pair of newly-discovered vulnerabilities that affect all releases of SAV prior to SAV 10.1 MR10.  SEP is not vulnerable to any attacks which may take advantage of these known vulnerabilities in SAV.
