Workspace Streaming

I am testing the new version of Symantec Workspace Streaming and Virtualization 7.5. I have a need for instruction on how to configure SWS 7.5 backend to create new database and schema on to SQL 2008 R2 cluster environment with windows authentication. I was able to install everything in a single node (SQL database, backend, frontend) as product POC. I am now trying to test the off box SQL with separate backend server and frontend server. During the database configuration, I’ve tried manually create the database and SQL local user with rights at the SQL server and use the existing database option and existing account, getting failed to create database schema. Similar problem when choose to create new database.

Did you use a default instance name or a customized name ? I think i have seen this once where i was circling around the same configuration screen and then passed it when let the installation to create the new database with default instance name...

Try this, Just to make sure if your setup is correct, can you just let the installation to 'Create a new database' and WITHOUT specifying any 'Intance Name' in the Instance Name text field (Leave it blank), Installation will then create a database in the name of 'appstream'. Lets see....If it succeeds then we might be up to something in mapping the new database you created manually in the SQL system.

I did try without specifying an instance name. Getting same result. I need to see if I have to check with our dBA to see if SQL mixed mode turn on or not. This might have to do with the error for the sa account. I do wonder about the windows authentication configuration instead of use the sql local account.

I have my SQL box to operate in Mixed Mode and that is what suppose to be ideal for the streaming solution..

Couple things that I have discovered, the database wasn't in mixed mode in our end and been on the windows authentication only. Change to mixed mode. The streaming engine server needs to have SQL connectivity tool install in order to make connection to the database server. Last, I have to use existing user and can't create new user with database configuration. After I have the SQL connectivity tool install and the database security change to mixed mode and enable and use the sa account everything went well with the configuration.

The installation document does not stated all the prerequisites, like java and its supported version and SQL connectivity tool for off box SQL database. It would be helpful to have some more detail document.

thank you for the document. It helps with the windows authentication. I do have one more question. Can the streaming database reside in a SQL cluster environment? I having some trouble getting it to work in a cluster environment. I find document about the streaming engine been in the cluster environment. I am not able to find articles on configuring the database in SQL cluster environment.
