Hi guys , I just need to know if there is any tool or script available that we can use to remove/purge corrupt definations on SEP clients so that it can download a newer and fresh set of definations automatically. Use case is it is strongle belived that definations are corrupted which are causing problems.

At the momment we have to manually remove the content definations from some specific folders and then remove some registery enteries as per the article available for removing corrupted definations but all this process is manual. However I was looking for some more efficent way in terms of a script or tool that can automate this process for us for a larger number of clients.

    Thanks

There is an rx4defs tool but that was for 11.x clients. For 12.1 it's a manual removal like you've been doing.

    Here's the writeup on rx4defs:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH93036

Again, won't apply for 12.1 so in essence there isn't one for 12.1

as per symantec's claim the intelligent updater will fix/repair the corrupt definition. can you give it a try ?

Why do you need to manually repair defs, what about using the Intelligent Updater to try and update them?

Hi Praveen and Brain can you refer to some TechNote or documentation where it says that running Intelligent Updater on client will fix the corrupt definations ? If this is true then we can simply push the intelligent updater on affected clients via some third party tool like SCCM to fix this issue/

Brian there are lots of machines which are disabled ( various components are malfunctioning ) and when I opened the UI it was mentioned that Sonar definations are corrupted

There isn't an official doc for Windows clients. It's based on experience. Test it out on one of your affected clients.

I don't have it in any tech documents. but I have received it in emails from symantec from advanced team as well, which I cannot share it for obvious reason. if you are really in of an official conformation please open a support case then semantic technician can/will send you the email with details.
