TouchDown

I am using a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge running 6.0.1 for an OS. My Touchdown is version 9.0.00412. I'm not sure how long this has been going on but every time my phone reboots my short cut for the email disappears. My other widgets, like calendar and tasks stay, but the 1x1 email shortcut icon disappears and I have to readd it. Has anyone else experienced anything like this or know a fix/work around by chance?

We had one report of it, but we couldn't reproduce. Are you using a third party widget manager?

No, no 3rd party widget manager. Just whatever widget manager comes with the OS on the S6 Edge.

To confirm this is the S6 Edge not the S6 Edge +?

Okay- unfortunately we do not have that specific device handy, (Just the Edge+ which works as expected) although you are the second person to report this issue with that device. Have you seen this behavior occurring with other apps widgets?

I can also confirm this is happening for the 1x1 Email Shortcut Widget each time my device is rebooted.  Also on Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge (not +) and the latest Touchdown HD.  I have not tested any of the other 1x1 TD widgets as they do not interest me.

That's odd- we have someone with an Edge and he says it works fine. Does it always happen, or is it not a consistent issue for that device?

Any new action on this issue by chance Peter? It is still happening to me, but wanted to add another caveat that I don't know if it will help or not. I received the Samsung Gear VR as a gift and use it with the 6 Edge. After I am done using it and exit out of the Oculus/Gear apps and go back to the home screen, the icon is gone as well. I'm not sure what the VR headset does to the phone, as in what kind of state it puts it in, but whatever it is causes the icon to disappear as well just like a reboot does.

For kicks, I added a 1x1 shortcut for the calendar to one of the screens and that icon disappears as well. And it appears to only occur with Touchdown icons. The 1x1 icons. I use the Calendar and Tasks 3x2 widgets and those never disappear. Just the 1x1 shortcut icons do.

Nothing- we still haven't reproduced.

That's fascinaing about the VR piece. Are you noticing any other widgets going missing, or perhaps a change in orientation, etc?

None of my other app widgets go missing after a reboot or use with the Gear VR. Just any of the 1x1 Touchdown widgets. They don't go away if I adjust the orientation of my phone to say, watch a movie or something like that. Only seem to disappear when I reboot/shutdown or use the VR. And it just appears to be the 1x1 widget icons that do it. The larger widgets I use for the calendar and the tasks remain in tact all of the time.

Okay- at least we narrowed this down to the VR unit. I'll check to see if anyone in the office has one (I don't, tried it at E3 and got sick), and if we can repro I'll let you know.

Our tester couldn't repro- have you tried reinstalling the Gear store app, or whatever app you are using for the Gear?

I don't think it directly has anything to do with the Gear apps as it was happening before installation of those. It always disappears with a restart of the device. I was just bringing up the VR aspect in case the VR does something to the pages of icons that is similar to what a restart does (like stop or restart some specific process or feature or something) since both actions cause the 1x1 icons to disappear.

Okay, I'll have the guy with the Gear try restarting the device.

I'm having the same issue with a galaxy s6. I have tried downloading both Touchdown and Touchdown HD and both 1x1 widgets disappear after a reboot. I have tried different widgets and they stay with a restart and I have also reset the phone. every time it restarted the phone losses only the touchdown widgets. Also this is a company phone and has nothing special on it.

I recevied the Android v7.0 update a couple weeks ago and noticed today that I am no longer experiencing the issue of the icon disappearing. Not sure what that means, but the icon stays now.
