What this means, in plain terms, is that the decision has been made to End of Life Touchdown, meaning that within a month, it will no longer be for sale. Symantec will be removing the ability to purchase Touchdown in early August, so if you want to purchase any final licenses before then, do so quickly.

    Hi,

Thanks for the kind words- I'm actually the last remaining member of Nitrodesk still involved with Touchdown, so that means a lot. It's the customers and the amazing community that really put Touchdown on the map, and I am eternally grateful for their support and enthusiasm for the product.

Sadly, we don't have a replacement product. Your license won't be revoked, but we'll be removing Touchdown from the store, and after the End of Support timeline passes, I won't be doing any Touchdown support. (Moving to another product.)

This is a sad day. :( I missed the initial EOL notice on the play store.

I've been using Touchdown since 2010, it has been one of the most reliable pieces of software I've ever used. There's never been a problem (for me) other than a few minor hiccups, it's been improved frequently over the years and the response to questions and support has been fantastic especially from the original developers - support from Symantec has also been good since it purchased the product. A big thanks from me to all involved with the product.

Will there be a replacement for Touchdown?

    Regards

    Bill

    Hi Peter.

Can you confirm how existing users will be able to use the app once it goes EOL?

I assume that the users will have access to the app in the relevant app store and it will be usable if they previously purchased the app?

    Can you confirm for me?

    Michael

    Hi,

For Android, you won't be able to purchase it, but previous users can still use Touchdown. Before End of Support, you'll be able to get a fresh license key from the support alias if you can provide a google play order number. iOS, I will get back to you on that, there was a discussion on how to provide it to users that I'm waiting to hear back on.

In response to some of the feedback I've been hearing, Symantec is not providing a replacement app with similar functionality, although it should be noted that the EoL means that it will no longer be sold- you will still be able to use it, just not buy more licenses.

  • 10.  RE: Touchdown EOL Notice

    Posted Jul 25, 2017 10:19 AM

    Hi Peter

Do you have an update for the EOL timeframe? Have there been any changes to the timeframe?

Could you clarify this also? The below dates have come and gone?

End of Product Life (EOL)    7/3/2017
End of New Sale Availability (EOL)    7/3/2017
    End of Access (EOL+12m)    8/7/2017
End of Standard Support (EOL+24m) 7/2/2018
End of Extended Support (EOL+ 48m) No Extension

I note that the app is still available on the Play store so it would be great to get a firm date on when it will  no longer be available on the Play store. (except for those who already downloaded it)

    Kind regards

    MAL

Hi...I'm just now finding out about Touchdown EOL and I'm very disappointed.  This is the only mobile app I've ever found worthy of purchase as it was the most useful, by far.  It's sad that Symantec essentially killed the best e-mail/calendar app out there and believe me, I've tried out many.

I just have one question...will I be able to still install and use this on my Android device in, let's say, 5 years if I have an APK file?

    Thanks,

    -Mike

Will current licenses and APK continue to function after the EOL?

We are pushing Touchdown HD v9.000437 to our Android devices using XenMobile. Will we be able to after the EOL?

    Thanks,

    Bill

Absolutely. The next date of signficance is 8/7/2018, which marks when support ends- no more Touchdown development, and I will no longer be checking the Touchdown queue or forums.

I am a little bit confused. When End-of-Support happen (July 2018), I understand we won't get support anymore. Will Symantec pull the Towndown (HD) app from the store? If so, would we (pay user) able to download a copy of the APK?

We have large number of users and we bought licenses from Nitrodesk AND Symantec. We would like to contiune use it if our user choose so and able to re-install it if we need to wipe their phones.

Thank you and look forward your reply.

    Hi,

We will not be removing the products from the store, so you can use it indefinitely, but it will not recieve support.

  • 23.  RE: Touchdown EOL Notice

    Posted Sep 18, 2017 04:25 PM

    Hi,

With the removal of the ability to purchase, how can paid users get a replacement key if we can't download it from the Google Play store?  I just replaced my phone and want to get my license activated but the touchdown key is not in the store anymore.

On a side note, anyone have recommendations for a TouchDown replacement that will show all the email from all your Exchange folders?
TouchDown was the only email app I ever found that easily displayed emails from all my different Exchange folders in one easy view.

Nitrodesk, Thank you for one of the best products I ever used on my phone!

Symantec, You suck for killing such a great product.

  • 24.  RE: Touchdown EOL Notice

    Posted Sep 19, 2017 11:57 AM

    Hi,

You can still download the Exchange by Touchdown key, just look under your library in the app store. Users will be able to use Touchdown indefinitely using that method of licensing, and we aren't going to pull the Touchdown HD/Smartphones app from the store.

As for other apps, no recommendations, but nothing is stopping you from using Touchdown.

And if you are having a hard time getting licensed, ping me on touchdown-support@symantec.com and I'll help you there.

Is there a place I can download the latest APK for Androind.

And the lastest license unlock APK for my licence?

If I have to reset my phone or buy a new phone I need these to install it again.

Or can't I reinstall it even if I have bought it?

  • 26.  RE: Touchdown EOL Notice

    Posted Sep 26, 2017 08:57 AM

But where can I can that APK file (to keep it safe for later use)?
Even even more important:  The APK file to unlock my license (without that I can't use it)

It should still be available via Google Play. If you are having a hard time finding it, just email touchdown-support@symantec.com.

    Hi,

Unfortunately, we are no longer selling licenses as part of the End of Life, so you will not be able to use the full mode after the trial expires, or reinstall the trial if it's an emergency. Free mode is severely limited.

This really, really stinks.  I too have been using TD for years.  Never found a good alternative, and still seems not to be one with as many needed features.  I wish someone could take it over or release the code so someone can develop.

Again, it's not going away, and the product is fairly stable- We just aren't selling new licenses, but you can use it indefinitely.

Use @nachocve Nacho Mail as a secure email client. That's a path that we are proposing for those enterprises affected by the shutdown of Touchdown.  Sorry to see this product end-of-life'd ... it really allowed enterprise' a secure email solution for many years.

So, I just made the effort to register for Symantec's website so I could post this message.  You should know that Touchdown was an outstanding application... very well developed and supported.  It rivalled Outlook iteself on the full PC.  You and the Nitrodesk team should be very proud of what you guys created and accomplished!  Well done.

Peter I am heartbroken over this.  I love this product and you have been an awesome resource over the years for various troubleshooting. It is really unfortunate that Symantec bought this product only to kill it.  I'm not technical enough to be of use, but I do wish they would open source it so those with the talent and motivation could continue to improve it and fix bugs etc.

In the meantime, I will soon be upgrading my phone.  I see the license key in my account, but it doesn't actually show the key.  Do I need to know it, or I just reinstall the key on the next phone?

Best wishes on whatever you do next and happy holidays!

    Best,

I have used touchdown longer than i care to remember. I originally bought it from Nitrodesk and was a little worried about what would happen when Symantec took over. I have been pleasantly surprised. TD is the best app i have (of the nearly 700 apps on my phone). I have been looking for a replacement, the closest one is Nine, although none have e getting.

  • 54.  RE: Touchdown EOL Notice

    Posted Dec 28, 2017 09:58 AM

When Symantic bought Touchdown, I switched to Nine [http://www.9folders.com/] after trying (literally) every Exchange Client in the Google Play Store. It was the only option for Android I found that provided email, calendar (with color coding), Active Directory Contact list, and tasks. The colors in the UI are significantly better than the gaudy TD UI and it continues to be supported and updated. Now, if there were a Nine app for iOS (I use an iPad Pro for taking handwritten meeting notes and performing document review/markup) my world would be complete.

I purchased a touchdown license in the past.  I just bought a new smartphone and installed touchdown HD, but there is  no longer any way to download the license key.  There is a new product called Touchdown Venus being advertised in the Google Play Store, but this says it is an unreleased "early access" product.  Is this the replacement for Touchdown HD?  Does it have the same functionality?

Please tell me what I need to do to continue using touchdown on my phone

Alternatively, is there a way I can download a copy of it and save in my computer to install manually in future android phones?

I have to say it has been a wild ride, and while it's been sad to see it go, I'm glad Touchdown has been a useful tool for many people to use for their professional and personal lives. I'm still going to be using it myself as long as I can. Thank you for supporting us, and it's been a lot of fun working on this product and providing support for all the customers of this product.

Goodbye, and thank you from the bottom of my heart.
