Trouble upgrading from Endpoint Protection 11.MR4 to Endpoint Protection 11.0 RU5.

    Hi all!
    I am currently running Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.MR4 in a windows 2008 server. When I run the setup to upgrade the management console to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 RU5 the setup does not complete, it says “rolling back” but it does not say why. The SEPM_INST.LOG file does not show any errors.
    I have uninstalled and re-install LU and still rolling back. Here is some log information.

    we dont see any return value 3 in this log.
    right click on the setup and try the RunAs option to install the SEPM
    if that files. try running  repair of your SEPM MR4 check that completes or even that rolls back.

    Reboot the machine and then try to install the SEPM.

    Thank you guys for the quick response.
    The event viewer looks good.  I repaired the SEPM MR4 installation and rebooted the server, I ran the setup as an administrator.
     I am still having the same problem, It rolls back after it finish "Copying files"

    I unziped the file to the desktop, ran it from there an it did the same thing. Do I need both CD1 and CD2 at that location?

    Is MSI logging enabled? This is server 2008 so you could google how to enable it but i think its a reg key change.

    Logs are usually kept at RUN --> %temp%

    Open the logs and post them here if you can.

    You could get the WILOGUTIL tool but its part of an SDK package. I use it when troubleshooting custom MSI packages.

    It has to error out somewhere but maybe not the Symantec logs, maybe its in the LU logs or MSI logs.

    Try by enabling MSI logging below doc can help you in this (In method 3 it is present)
    Error message when you try to install updates from the Windows Update or Microsoft Update Web site: "0x8024002D" 
     
    If not helping Try By turning off UAC
    Even after that if you are facing problem try by using another copy of installation media .Some corrupted files in installation media also can cause this problem..

    I got some new information. In the event viewer I found this error after the installation fails.

    “IISConfig.vbs error( 9 ) - Unable to get the anonymous username!”

    There is a lot of people complaining about not been able to install SEP in windows 7, Vista and server 2008 all over the internet. Many people install LU first and they are successful, but many are not (like in my case) so I kept digging into security.
     
    I re-ran lusetup.exe and I installed it as myself.  I added myself the local Administrators group (I am also a domain admin).  I read somewhere that membership of the local administrators group by virtue of a nested group such as domain administrators does not give you complete administrative rights in Windows 2008 server.  Running as "administrator" does not either. So adding myself to the local administrators group did the trick.

    I had a similar problem.  Rollbacks.  Event ID 1033 with 1603 error status in Application Event Log.   Long story short.  This Win2008 server was in one domain and was demoted, renamed, and joined to another domain.  SEPM no longer worked.  I couldn't resolve.  Decided to uninstall and re-install. 

    I got smart and grabbed a screenshot with Alt-PrtScrn when that DOS text window flashed up.  It clued me in.   The default IIS anonymous account changed, from iusr_server1 to iuser_server2 when the machine name changed.  This is not the user account for the "Default Web Site" but rather the one for the IIS server itself, and thus the account used when new websites are created, which is what the SEPM installation does.  I corrected it there and installation flew through. 

    Of note, elsewhere I learned/discovered that SEPM doesn't like mstsc.exe RDP sessions, but many times mstsc.exe /console will work.  I always use the /console switch when working with SEPM now.  I installed like this.
