  • 1.  Unable to access Main Street Software website

    Greetings,

I have run into an issue that I can't seem to find an answer to.  A client of mine is attempting to access Main Street Software's website (mainstsoftware.com) but consistantly get 'Unable to display webpage' using IE9, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox on Windows 7 Home Edition.  At the time she was using Norton Internet Security and was told by their technician that there was an issue with the firewall blocking the website.  They also indicated that their site was on Norton's 'white list'.  Anyhow, the user did not want to renew the security suite and it was removed.  So the time was taken to try and access Main Streets's website again without the security suite and the same thing happened.  Contacting them again they stated that there is some residual settings left over from when Norton Internet Security was uninstalled.  Using another completely different system using again using Windows 7 Home Edition tried the same thing and got the same results.  What residual settings should I look for?  Before my client purchased the Windows 7 system there were no problems accessing the site using Windows XP SP3.  This also was reported by another individual to me so I find it hard to be a coincidence.  Any ideas?  Thanks in advance.

But all other websites are accessible? It is just this one having an issue?

Out of curiosity, have you tried another web browser to see what the result is?

Also, you may want to post this on the Norton forum for better visibility

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for the prompt reply.  Yes, all other websites are accessible without issue.  We have tried using IE9, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.  Didn't try Opera, Safari or Comodo Dragon.  Ironically while we we trying we were able to access the website on our smartphones (Blackberry and iPhone).  Thaks for the link to Norton Community.  I'll post this there as well.  If a solution is found I will post back.

I have a customer with this exact same problem. Brand new HP notebook, came preloaded with Symantec software. She cannot connect to mainstsoftware.com but can connect to any other website under the sun. We've removed Symantec's software and used the cleanup tool, still no luck. This system is running Windows 8. As Andre posted, it worked fine on their Windows XP machine. I was assuming it was a Windows 8 issue, but the only other references to problems with mainstsoftware.com have lead me to Symantec posts.
