My issue is pretty much the same as this thread: https://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/unable-boot-windows-automation-while-capturing-disk-image but since that was closed with no solution for me I'm creating this new thread.

We have Ghost Solution Suite Console Version 3.1 MP 6 and the image to be captured is Windows 10 64 bit

I followed same steps I have used in the past with Windows 7 and 8.1 (from this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7kI7A_aOjg) but it doesn't seem to be working with Windows 10.

After assigning the job, the Windows 10 machine to be imaged reboots a couple of times but never starts into PE and ends up booting to Windows 10.  GSS status changes to "Unable to boot to Windows automation."

I'm a teacher, and not very knowledgeable about the world of lab administration...  Any thoughts/help/things to try is appreciated!

    Vincent,

This usually happens when the NIC is not set as the default boot option. By default most windows machines will not boot to pxe without modifying the bios or selecting f12 during boot.

Go ahead and kick off the job and when the machine reboots press f12 and select ipv4, pxe, nic (these options depend on your boot selection options).

Your machine should then boot to pxe and grab the job from the server.

    Vincent,

Did changing the bios boot order resolve the unable to boot to automation issue?

Bryce, thank you very much for your help!  Setting it to nic did not do it in this case - installing the windows automation folder was the step I was missing.  Thank you again for your help!

    Vincent,

Installing the automation folder does not fix the network boot pxe issue, rather it bypasses it.

If you are just looking for some way to start imaging, then automation folders will do the trick. If you want to use network booting then see the below documentation and set the bios to boot to pxe by default.

Thank you for the clairification and the pxe guide. I was just trying to capture the image to distribute and I'm sure I used the wrong terminology in my question.  Basically PE just never happened, so I couldn't capture the image.  Thanks again!
