  • 1.  Unable to Connect Client to Ghost Cast Session

    Posted Feb 25, 2014 05:07 PM

We recently received a newer Dell Latitude E5540 model laptop, and I need to save an out of box image before I update and personalize the image for deployment.

    The relevant information:

When using the WinPE boot stick(s) that we've created, Ghost runs, but does not connect to the session when I enter the Session ID.  I have also tried specifying the Server IP Address, but it still will not connect.  The device is pulling the generic loopback address 127.0.0.1, which I understand is a problem with the loaded NIC drivers.  I loaded the Vista32 drivers for the NIC and SATA, but even with the newly created boot stick I pull the same IP Address.

If I ping any outside IP Address, then I receive the following error:
"PING: transmit failed, error code 1231"

I've researched this error and tried to apply the recommended fixes, but I still run into the same issue.  I'd be eternally grateful for some professional guidance.  Thank you in advance.

Which NIC chipset do these DELL units have?  If it is the Intel 82579 then search this forum on 82579 for links to known good drivers as not all supposed Vista drivers work with WinPE V2.

If they use a different chipset, please let us know what it is as this is the best way of identifying needed drivers.

You may also find this article useful as a quick way of testing candidate drivers without rebuilding your wim file each time.

Thank you.  Utilizing the Dell site led me to believe that the NIC chipset was Intel 825xx, but it's actually the I218-LM, which I'm reading isn't really supported in the PE 2.0 environment.  At this point I'm led to believe I need to follow the forums to upgrade the PE environment to 3.0...

Thank you, I'll link this discussion to the two posts in which you and Maneesh resolved similar issues in the event that anyone clicks on this post in their own search.  This has been helpful.  Thanks again.

good luck.  It's the way it seems to be going since GSS 2.5.1 supports PE2.0 (VISTA), and a lot of hardware is not even coming out with VISTA drivers anymore

Here are links to 2 articles i wrote that help you create and use the PE3.0 image with GSS
