We have deployed a few Win7 Clients in our network. Since then when copying files  from the file server , either fails or hangs.

I have SEP installed. If I remove it , itworks fine.

It was resolved in RU6 MP2 or 3 (can't remember).

    edit...looks like it was MP3 (https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/cannot-copy-files-using-smb-20-protocol-sep-11-ru6-and-ru6a)

Is the File server a Windows 2008 R2?

If yes then it is known issue with RU6Mp2.

This is a known issue with Symantec Endpoint Protection and SMB2. Symantec has released SEP RU6MP3, which states that SEP is now compatible with SMB2.

File copies over SMB2 fail with Network Threat Protection installed/enabled

File copying dialog hangs when copying between Windows 7 and Windows 2008 computers

    Fix ID: 2102159

Symptom: With Server Message Block Volume 2 (SMB2) enabled, file copies between Windows 7 and Windows 2008 may hang. The file copy dialog may never complete.

Solution: The Teefer2 driver was optimized to avoid a FIFO queue bottleneck when processing SMB2 packets.

In order to resolve the issue you need to upgrade from Upgrade SEP from RU6mp2 to RU6MP3 or RU7.

There were some known issues with ops lock and SMB 2.0 that were resolved in RU6 MP3. If you are on a build previous to this I would upgrade to the latest RU7 release.

Ok so it works fine for XP as XP uses SMB1 and Win 7 uses SMB2 so it doesn't work

    XP to 2008 SMB1

    WIN7 to 2008 SMB2

    So it was not working
