  • 1.  Unmanaged clients license expiration

    Posted Aug 21, 2017 04:04 AM

    Hello all,

I have a doubt about the license on the unmanged clients. Does anyone know what happens whith the unmanaged clients when the license installed on the SEPM expire? Do they need to be re-created?

My only experience with this issue is with my labs machines, and now if I create an unmanged client with the trial license, the license in the client expire and it doesn.t work fully.

I have a client with mobile employes that can be out of office for up to two years whithout going to the office, which means without connection to the SEPMs to update the license, and they have asked me what will happen with these clients at the end of the year when they have to renew the license. Do they have to connect them to the SEPM (impossible)? do they have to create a new client package when the new license is being deployed, and install it, or everything will work as expected in an unmanged client?

    Kind regards,

    Juan

when machines do not connect that long and installed as unmanged, you need to install the license manually for client reputation data submission

unmanged clients do not report to SEPM at all, they are self managed...

The unmanaged client is an individual install, not managed by SEPM. You license it as a standalone client:

    Hello both,

    thanks for the promp reply.

I had read the article before writing in the forum, but it didn't solve my doubts. For what I understand from the TN, the license is only necesary to be able to send reputacion information to Symantec, but not for the normal function of the product. Am I correct?

Also, if I install the license in the unmanaged clients, do they count as a seat for the license?

    Regards,

    Juan

Correct. Only reputation lookups will no longer work once the license expires.

It would not count against the overall license count since it does not report to SEPM. It would only affect reputation lookups.

as its unamanged it wount report or take license from SEPM, you need to install the license locally on the box.

apart from exporting the unmanged package from SEPM, SEPM and client don't talk to each other
