    Hi guy's,

I've a problem with the Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 Outlook scanner. I dont trust it!

When i send the eicar virus with the GFI mail test tool it only warns when i try to save the file to the desktop. The auto protect interfers (original location Mailsubsystem). So no problem in clicking and autopreview it in Outlook. Shouldn't the plugin kick when the file arrives?

We use Outlook 2007 with the plugin installed (its checked and listed as Symantec Antivirus Outlook Protection in the trust center).

The policy is configured correctly (both the Outlook and Internet Email autoprotect are active and fully configured).

Is this the normal behaviour our should the plugin kick in at an earlier stage?

    Thanks in advance!

If you use Microsoft Outlook over MAPI or Microsoft Exchange client and you have Auto-Protect enabled for email, attachments are immediately downloaded to the computer that is running the email client. The attachments are scanned when the user opens the message.

    See "About Auto-Protect scans" - http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/331170.htm

    Hi Joris,

You are correct...outlook auto-protect must scan when you preview files...a bit strange..

    Hi Cycletech,

We use Outlook with two accounts in one profile.

    1. The main account is an Exchange account (with a 3th party spam/virus scanner) On this account all mail is checked before arrival and is clean.
    2. The second account is an Pop3 address. The virusses are entering the computer through this account. When i open the mail and preview it nothing happens. When i save it to disk the autoprotect kicks in.

So whe is the content scanned of the pop3 mail? Shouldn't it be scanned when previewed in Outlook > 2007?

    Can you double check following

1.whether your Internet Email auto-protect and Microsoft Outlook auto-protect is  enabled in the AV/AS policy of SEPM.Also assure that it is locked by clicking the small lock symbol.

2.Whether in the client all these features(Mail scanning components) installed?
