  • 1.  Upgrade from 14 MP1 to newest version

    Posted Jan 11, 2018 02:27 PM

I will be upgrading our v14 MP1 to the newest version which, at the time of this writing is 14.0.1.1 (14 RU1 MP1). From what I have been able to gather, a hotfix for my current version will not be released. Im also wondering if I should wait until after the 17th to upgrade as there may be a newer "Refresh" version for RU1 MP1 that I can go right to. It has been a year so I think we are due for an upgrade!

Do I need to do anyhting other than upgrade the software by running the upgrade? No SQL upgrades or anything? Afterwards, I will supply the client install package to SCCM to install on all PCs.

Is there a whitepaper on best practices for upgrading other than:

    or

    Thanks so much!!

What I mean by "hotfix" is for Meltdown/Spectre.

SEPM installer will handle DB schema upgrade but nothing else on the SQL side should be needed.

    The upgrade document is here:

The version to be released on January 17th (or there abouts) will be the one that you will need to update to (it will include the hotfix). It will be a direct upgrade from the version that you are currently running. Just follow the standard upgrade documentation provided by Symantec. Make sure you have a valid backup of the Database, server certificate and Console server. You should also document the current configuration for disaster recovery.

Brian - can you comment on the quote above from tom_napier@cbc.ca?

I also noticed that a comment was made by John_Owens in https://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/sep-system-tray-icon-warns-multiple-issues-following-installation-january-3rd-2018-windows-se#

No.  There will only be a patch/upgrade hotfix for SEP 14 RU1 MP1, SEP 14 RU1, SEP 14 MP2.  You will need to choose one of these versions to upgrade to once the hotfix is available.  Eta is January 17th.

My response is based on what John mentioned. Hotfix for the current version you're running and then upgrade (if you wish). That's how I read it but correct me if I'm wrong.

SEP 14 RU1 MP1 and SEP 12.1 RU6 MP9 will be full builds.  Meaning you can upgrade to these builds on January 17th.  You will be able to upgrade the SEPM and the client packages that get updated as a part of that upgrade will contain the hotfix.  You will then just have to export the package or push them out via the SEPM to your clients.

SEP 14 MP2 and RU1 will only be the client builds.  You will need to upload them as client packages into your SEPM.

I would wait until January 17th to start your upgrade and use the new hotfix builds.

    Thanks,
