  • 1.  Upgrade from Altiris 7.1 to 7.6 with Site Servers

    Hello,

Im about to upgrade from Altiris 7.1 to Altiris 7.6 in a network that has remote locations and the bandwith is very low and critical.

Because of these remote locations, there's a site server assigned to each one of these locations and all the agents connect to the site server for patches in order to save bandwith, The site servers run XP (not possible to assign hierarchy).

Whats the behaviour like on the upgrade between site servers, agents and the notification server?

For what i understand, all the agents communicate with NS through LAC, and then i can upgrade the agent but getting it from the NS itself. Is there a way to get the updated agent from the site servers?

    Hi,

Please be aware that in 7.6 XP OS is not supported for the Task Service (Task Service required .Net Framework 4.5.1 and such version cannot be installed to XP).

I think you may share copy of  folder "\\NS_SERVER\NSCap\bin\Win32\X86\NS Client Package" in remote office's LAN and use script that will launch upgrade command. For example for the SMA-on-site-server-upgrade the command line is: AexNSC.exe -s -a /s /install /platform=x86

    Thank you,

    Alex.

Once you find a way to upgrade your OS site servers, please be aware that once you upgrade your platform and CMS there's a lot of traffic towards NS >> SS, because of all the new plug-ins, if you have low upload bandwidth in your NS location you are going to face trouble.
