  • 1.  Upgraded to 8.1 from 8.0

    Currently we upgraded client management solution 8.0 to 8.1 now we have to go threw and upgrade all the agents that are all still on the 8.0 setup. I have upgraded some of them but having some issue with the pluggable agent. I add a picture of this agent do I need to uninstall this agent because I tried to upgrade this one and it won't take. Plus I seen that it wanting a agent that a version lower for some reason. This agent is new as well because this was not part of the 8.0 version of symantec either. Can someone please up here not sure what I need to do.

    Hi Paul,

    It's very strange. 8.1.4526 - this is 8.1 GA version (based on http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO125822). 8.1.5419 - 8.1 RU4. Do you have any problems during Notification Server upgrade/update from 8.0 to 8.1 or from 8.1 to 8.1 RU4? Seems that PPA installation package is changed but expected version in DB is not.

    Can you describe the steps how you upgrade the Notification Server?

    Hi Dmitri,

    I wasn't involed in the system upgrade Our Network Admin did that. I see that for some reason we ar stuck in the 8.1 for the expected version for this agent. BUt Our system is running 8.1 RU5 which all of the other agents are on the right version not sure why the pluggable protocols didn't update to the correct version. I check the NS server and there no new updates avaible as of now. Do you know if there another way to upgarde the agent to 8.1RU5? I step and had to update the agent on the NS server and the Site Server which I'm having issues on the Site Server trying to do upgrade those agents. It was easier on the NS server to update the agaents once the server had the correrct version besides the Protocol one any ideas.

    Hi Paul,

    Correct Upgrade path is to upgrade the agents by using upgrade policies. Pluggable Protocols Agent (PPA) is a part of the Remote Monitoring Server (RMS) package which is distributed by Windows Remote Monitoring Server Upgrade policy.

    Based on screenshot I have not understand why you have PPA without RMS on selected machine... 

    Also based on same screenshot your PPA have correct version. In SmpVersion table in DB is incorrect version (from 8.1 GA). Seems that by some reason configuration of the PPA 8.1 HF4 was not executed or executed but not fully.

    You might try to execute the configurationa of the PPA 8.1 HF4 manually by using aexnsconfig.exe (http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO6681):

    example: C:\Program Files\Altiris\Notification Server\Bin>AeXConfig.exe /configure "C:\Program Files\Altiris\PluggableProtocols\Config\PluggableProtocols.config”

    But do so at your own risk.
