  • 1.  Upgrading External DB

    Hello,

We are planning an upgrade from 12.1.x to version 14. We are running an external db that is not compatible with version 14 so we need to do a db upgrade. My question is what is required when performing an external database upgrade. Can replication stay enabled since it is just the DB version thats being changed. We have a small lab I am going to test in but I am looking for some input/reccomendations prior to upgrading.

    Thanks.

Symantec has a KB article on moving to a new SQL DB:

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for your response. In our situation we are just moving up a service pack not to a new SQL server or SQL server version. In that case is there anything to worry about?

    Thanks,

    Bobby

If you're just upgrading to a supported version, it should be as simple as just doing that. Just make sure you run a backup prior to upgrading SQL.

    Hi Brian,

Thank you very much is breaking replication recommended before the upgrade or is it fine to keep that in place as all the DB's are on one server and will be upgraded to the same service pack at the same time.

    Thanks

It's best practice to break replication before upgrading but it's not required. If replication were to occur during and upgrade it could lead to unpredictable results.
