    Hi all
Sad fact is Ghost needs a bootable disk for network imaging. I tried different ways, burning the image in a CD but it kept giving can not write DHCP file error.

I have created a solution for this with a USB memory key, so no more floppy drives, no more annoying error messages. I hope this will find it useful for people trying to get away from floppies.
Here's what you have to do: (before that - its all upto you if something goes wrong!I'm only showing it can be done)

    1) Grab a bootable image. If you have a bootable diskette thats fine, otherwise download one from the net check here. http://www.allbootdisks.com/download/98.html  (I used my own win98 diskette)

    2) Format and transfer your bootable image to your USB mem drive. I tried 4 or 5 different progs out there only 1 worked for me.Others giving Disk I/O error or something like that.
      Try this google link
     http://www.google.com/search?complete=1&hl=en&q=how+to+make+a+bootable+usb&btnG=Google+Search
The one that worked for me is this:
http://www.bay-wolf.com/downloads.htm The one says Any Memory key

    3) After making it bootable try booting from it.If it works all good. Then copy all ghost files from your diskette in to your usb drive. Dont copy any IO,MSDOS,PCIO,PCDOS & COMMAND files as its already there in the key.
If your usb key does not boot please check bios, and try different programs to make it bootable. Sadly, it's a trial & error process.

    4) Now USB key is ready. Boot from it and see what happens. If it gives and error message saying can't write C:\ETC\DHCP you have one more step to do. This comes when NETBIND.com is run when it loads the DOS driver file. So you have to check which driver. In my case it was NTSTS.DOS. This becomes bit technical now.
You have to edit that file where it says A:\NET\DHCP to C:\NET\DHCP. Use a hex editor like XVI32 http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delphi/freeware/xvi32/xvi32.htm. Using XVI32 search the text string A:\NET\DHCP replace A with C and save it.

    5) Try booting from the USB key everything shoud be ok.

Please note you are at your own if something goes wrong, I wont be held responsible.
I do not know if its legal or not to change A:\NET\DHCP to C:\NET\DHCP this is done for demonstration & education purposes only.

If I have left out something please feel free to add to this thread.

Hope this post will help you.

    Regards
