hello, my company is interested in purchasing ghost solution suite but i want to make sure it is what we are looking for for our network infrastracture.  I'm currently using the trial version in our corporate office to test it out and it works great.  My question is how will this work with multiple locations.  I do IT work for the hotel industry and we own over 20 hotels across the hawaiian islands.  What is the best way to deploy packages without using the WAN?   Sending packages or images over the WAN will slow everything down to a crawl.  2 ways that i'm thinking of right now:

    1.  is there a way to set a master console, and each of the sites can communicate with the master console?  each of the sites would have all the packages and images on the local disk  So if a computer at site b needs this package.  I can set it on the master console to send out the package, it sends the request to site b's console which sends the package out from there.  also is there a way to copy the packages from the master console to each location without having me to log into each server and dump the packages over one by one everytime i update something.  I guess when i update the master console it will populate to each of the "slave" consoles.  There is a program called robocpy that i can use as well to do this.  I'm just trying to think of the most efficient way of doing this.

    2.  Each site has their own ghost console with all the images and packages at the site.  i would have to remote to the console, set ghost to send out the image or package and i guess thats it.  sounds simple, but i'm not sure about the licensing.  i guess i would have to talk with sales about that.

is there any other way that i can do this?  i have a vision and hopefully you understand what i'm trying to do :)  thanks for the help!

Regarding 2, Ghost Solution Suite is licensed per client. There is essentially no separate license fee for the console component. In practice, client licenses are applied to a Ghost Management Console, so I'd guess you will need to obtain a block of client licenses for each site.

Regarding 1, At present, our customers have developed various creative ways to achive this outcome, using an implementation method appropriate for their needs. You may be able to find one or two examples within the forum.

    Hope this helps,
    Xan

Adding to 2 - In GSS 2 you can choose choose to add and remove client licenses in any order. For example:

    - 10 client license + 50 client license + 5 client license = licensed for 65 clients.
    - remove 10 client license = licensed for 55 clients

thanks for the replies!  we are going to meet with our symantec rep and go over some of this stuff.  and i guess i better start searching the forums for those "creative" implementations :smileyhappy:  thanks again.

I would recommend you keep the image on the machine either in a seperate partition or in the windows NTFS partition and do local image restores rather than network to remove the need for network bandwidth to do a restore.

We actually have many different sites....but 3 main sites.  We have 3 consoles set up on each of the 3 sites.  We created a universal XP ghost image.  when the image is restored, the sysprep is run and we have a script that uses a gateway verification function, and depending on the gateway that the machine is on, it copies the appropriate pubkey.crt file and copies it on the local machine so that is reports to the proper console.  if you want more info on this I would be happy to help out.
