ANy idea what is possibly wrong? we have 800 Virtual machines with the ALTIRIS agent and Inventory agent running but they show as not having an agent when Altiris does a discovery OR using the built-in reporting.  (All windows NT/XP/2000 machines with no Altiris agent installed)

This could be firewall or port problem with machines communicating back to the server i've got the RAAD tool and i can see the agent running last requested config + next are both todays dates, last changed is the 7th of this month.

The logs don't scream anything to me..

    HELP!

Maybe your NSE's aren't processing.  Make sure the NSE's are being processed.  On the server:

    1. Browse to \\YourAltirisServerName\NSCap\
    2. Open every Evt folder and subfolder.  If any NSEs are found, move them into the EvtInbox folder
    3. Items should be processing through the EvtInbox folder, moving out of it very quickly.  If not, you may need to restart the service 'Altiris Service.'
If you found all these NSE's and moved them over, once all Evt folders are empty, you may need to force a Resource Membership Update.  To do this, go to Settings > Notification Server > Resource Membership Update, then click the Run button next to Complete Resource Membership Update.

Does this seem to be the cause of your problem?  Do these steps resolve the issue?

    Hi,

i should point out we have 4,000 desktops and laptops that are perfectly fine so should i still check the above?

i have looked and there are the following:

    EvtInbox - Empty

EvtQFast - Folders: BAD and Process.  "Bad" contains 5 subfolders. The other folders are:
    1. AeXException  (3 FIles)
    2. DatabseNotReadyException (Lots)
    3. Exception (About 50)
    4. InvalidOperationException (about 30)
    5. SqlException (about 30)

With files like nseF77B.tmp etc... do i move these to "Evtinbox" ?

    EvtQlarge (about 20 files)
    EvtQueueSlow (Empty)

EvtQueue 2 folders BAD and Process. "Bad" contains

    1. AeXException  (3 FIles)
    2. DatabseNotReadyException (Lots)
    3. InvalidOperationException (about 10)
    4. SqlException (about 3)

    Thoughts?

    Thank you!

I've loged into a VMware machine to test with and i can see on the agent details tab that last config request dates dor sent and received are for today yet this machine shows as having no Agent in Altiris still!

    Whats up with that!?

I've looked at the log there are lots of messages for "UI Thread Failed to Impersonate Logged on User Element not found (1168)"

    Is this perhaps an issue?

Are you running Altiris 6 or Altiris 7?

Can you view the Altiris Log Viewer and post any errors you find there?

For all .tmp files, move them to a temporary folder C:\tmpbackups
For all .nse files, move them into EvtInbox.  Do they disappear after you move them there?

Well it turns out the agent computer ID on the machines was different to the Computer ID altiris gave the VM on a re-dicovery so with 2 seperate IDs it was failing to match them together.

We deleted all the VM machines from Altiris and then let the re-discovery find them all and BOOM! back working except some clients that have broken agents.

    V6 by the way,

    Thanks!
