Eventhough liveupdate runs and shows all definitions up to date, I still get this "Virus and Spyware protection definitions out of date", the status splash shows the yellow bar up top informing me of the out of date issue

Defs are likely corrupt. Try clearing them out:

    Hi AlfieinKiss,

Run the SymHelp support tool.  That will display information about any errors or issues detected with your SEP 12.1 client.

    Hello,

Is that SEP 12.1 RU3 unmanaged client going to the interenet LiveUpdate servers to look for its updates, OR is it configured to look in an internal source?  (Perhaps a LiveUpdate Administrator 2.x server on your network?)

Examining the log.lue will reveal more details about where it is looking.

Could you check what version of Liveupdate are you running on the machine?

    Try these Articles below:

How to update definitions for Symantec Endpoint Protection using the Intelligent Updater

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH102606

Again, SONAR and IPS Intelligent updater (IU) are now available on :

    http://www.symantec.com/security_response/definitions.jsp

NOTE: These SONAR and IPS Intelligent updater are only for SEP 12.1 RU3.

    Hope that helps!!

Check in the admin tab -> servers-> show liveupdate downloads.

What components have not been updated?

Try clearing out definitions as mentioned in the articles above

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO59193

if that doesn't solve the issue try reinstalling liveupdate.

I am having a similar problem. My system was giving me problems so I re-installed windows 7 home edition. I installed Symantec Endpoint Protecsion (12.1.3001.165. Liveupdate ran and it reports definitions as Saturday, September 28, 2013 r6 however the top bar reports Virus and Spyware Protectin definitions are out of date. I did not unistall my previous version of endpoint prior to re-installing windows 7. I have uninstalled the current version of endpon and re-installed but the problem persists. I've looked over the prior suggestions but I have not seemed to have found a solution.

I am not computer illiterate but neither am I a programmer, probably an avergae user. Any suggestions?

this happenes because of the time mismatch between server and client I came across this issue . and I am able to resolve the issue after corectting the time in client system.
