  • 1.  Virus definition files failing to install

I'm setting up a new system with several servers, and have just installed Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.6 (12.1 RU6) build 6168 (12.1.6168.6000), and I am trying unsucessfully to install the virus definition files.  This system is for a manufacturing plant that is unable to be connected to the internet (for security reasons), so I need to install the updates manually.  Some servers are Server 2008 SP2 (32 bit), and some are Server 2008 R2 SP1 (64 bit).  When I run the intelligent updater (for example 20150720-002-v5132.exe for 32 bit or 20150720-002-v5i64 for 64 bit) there is an error message:

"Intelligent Updater session complete. All updates failed to install on the machine. For more details about the processing, please check the log file "Log.IntelligentUpdater.txt" created in the user's temporary directory."

In the log file, it says:
"AUTHORIZATION FAILED: VIRSCAN.zip is not authorized for deployment. Error code : 104"

"IGNORE ENTRY: Ignoring entry for VIRSCAN.zip because it is not authorized for deployment"

Note that I have tried this on two 64-bit servers and one 32-bit server, all with the same result, so I figure I must be doing something wrong.

What should I do to get this working, please?

    Thanks,

    David

    Hi Brian,

    Thanks for your suggestions.

I checked the registry settings and they were there, although with a different dll name. I tried changing them to the suggested settings, but still got the same error message.

I have installed and run SymHelp, but it didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. One thing it highlighted is that two of the servers are Terminal Servers.  But then another server is not a terminal server and it is showing the same problem.

Would you like me to send you the data from SymHelp?
