  • 1.  **Virus Found** error while uploading documents in a Sharepoint 2007 document library

    Hi,

    I am newly dealing with a Sharepoint 2007 web application which has "Symantec protection 6.0 for Sharepoint server" installed. Suddenly one day it was reported clients were no longer able to upload documents is document library. Whenever they were trying they were prompted with a message "Virus Found". The files were not at all virus infected. In Central administration, everything was configured properly. Also we didn't have anything in Sharepoint logs. The fix was restarting the service - "Symantec protection 6.0 for Sharepoint server". After restart, files uploaded successfully into the document library.

    After a couple of days we had the same issue and we tried restarting the service. This time that didn't even work. As we had no clue, we had to re-install the software - "Symantec protection 6.0 for Sharepoint server". After reinstallation once again files uploaded successfully into the document library.

    We don't have the root cause yet why Symantec protection 6.0 sometimes acts curiously. Need help to get a hold of this. Any idea why this is happening ?

    Do we need to upgrade to Symantec protection 6.0.5 ? (Antivirus definition in Central administration - Jun, 2012, could that be a possible reason ? )

    How long has this been occurring? Have you reached out to Symantec in regards to this? What's the name of the virus that it's detecting it as?

    Hi Brian,

    Thanks a lot for your reply.

    This has been occuring for last 2-3 weeks. Within that time period it has occured twice. Once we fixed it restarting the service, next time fixed reinstalling the software. We havn't yet reached out to Symantec for this. Thought of posting in forum first. It's not showing any name of the virus in the message. The message is like this,

    ====

    Virus Found

    The installed virus scanner is currently unavailable. If the problem persists contact your administrator.

    ====

    May want to engage support, something buggy may be going on. Those defs seem way out of date as well. What does a LiveUpdate show?

    Checked the LiveUpdate Administrator directory. It seems apart from Logs, no other item was modified since May, 2014.
