Is it necessary to create schema from template after Oracle 11.2.0.3 64 installation and then restore from cold backup of old DB ?

oR

One can just install 64 bit platform , install oracle 11.2.0.3 64 bit and proceed to restore from the cold backup.

I would guess one have to use template to before doing the restore but need more confidence on this one.

steps :

1.Cold backup old DB on 32 bit

2. Install new 64 bit OS platform

3. Install ORACLE 64 bit without creating new instance

4. Create new instance using symantec template ( I need confirmation of this step )

5. restore from cold backup

What version are you going from on the DLP side of things?  I know there are schema changes in 11.5 and also 12.0 that would have be done on the Oracle side that are part of the upgrade.  So just want to make sure things are all set there.

Do you have a test lab you can set this up in and see what happens?

We do not have test lab. We are not changing any versions - neighther symantec nor oracle

we have 11.5.1 symantec & 11.2.0.3 oracle.
