  • 1.  Want to move SEPM from one server to another - both servers will be same hostname and ip address

    Posted Jun 25, 2009 04:53 PM
I currently have SEPM 11.040 on a tired and old server and I want to move SEPM to a newer, faster server.  The old server will be taken offline and re-purposed and the new server will take over the old server's duties, with much larger HDD's and more memory.  Seeing how the "new" SEPM server will also be doing some other minor duties, it needs to keep the same hostname and IP address of the old server.  I need to be able to migrate the SEPM and its settings to the new server without them both being online at the same time for the obvious reason of conflicts on the network.  How can I do this efficiently with out having to set up a whole new batch of policies and settings.  Also, will the clients see the "new" server once it is online seeing how the hostanme and IP address are the same as the retired server?

I would appreciate any input to this question....
    Thanks,
    J.

In your case the disaster recovery procedure is the best option. You will save the database and the communication with the clients. See the installation_guide.pdf in the CD 1.

    Check the following KB.

    http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security.nsf/docid/2008031204405448

It relates to moving the SEPM from pne existing server, to another one with a different IP address and hostname.

    Hi,

LOL, J. cannot apply the procedure you suggested above... it requires that both machines are in the LAN to perfom the replication but they have the same IP address and hostname...

    Cheers,

You can LOL for all I care. I've given the above KB as an FYI, and not a definitive step forward for this issue.

The only way forward is the DR procedure. Have I disputed that?

If you want, we can rant on and on and on and let everyone have a good laugh.

The quality of a Forum depends by the noise/signal ratio as well.
If you add a post "FYI" not relevant for this discussion, it is noise.
