ProxySG & Advanced Secure Gateway

Hi All,

at this time we are trying to deploy WCCP transparent proxy using IP multicast addresing.
but when trying to create a WCCP group, there is always an error message, please check the picture that I attached.

I want to ask,

-how to configure IP multicast settings in ProxySG.

I have read the WCCP reference guide but it's not written way to configure IP multicast addresing. the existing topology with WCPP deployment is attached, please advise.

Hi Indra,

    Not sure on why you want to use Multicast IP range for WCCP. That too same IP address on all 4 devices. What is the benefits you are noticing with this setup ? To tell you the truth, I have not seen this to setup with any customer. From my understanding, a valid unique IP address is needed for each device to participate in WCCP.

Anyway, the error that you are getting is that the interface 2:0 is not having an IP address assigned to it. If your cable is connected to 2:0 on proxy side, make sure it is having an ip address configured. I will expect a unique address

i just read on the Document WCCP Reference, if we want to use WCCP with multicast IP addressing that all device on WCCP group is have a same IP Address (i.e 224.1.1.103). and valid unique IP address is needed if we want to use WCCP with unicast IP addressing, CMIIW. just base on the document WCCP reference i have read before. multicast IP addresing is have a couple advantage.

1. It reduce the amount of WCCP protocol traffic that running on network

2. We can add/remove router and proxySG on WCCP group service without having to reconfigure to the other group member.

Do you have examples of wccp config with multicast and unicast addresing? if you have please share to me. for references.

Hi Indra,

               I was not aware that multicast based WCCP is possible. Let me go through document and then comment. For Unicast, it is very simple. Depending on the network connection wrt hops/subnets, you can either opt for L2 or GRE. Do check for the router documentation on any limitations for that specific model. While the WCCP reference guide is good for that, I found an older article covering the steps and is attached.

if we have two router and two ASG is it possible for load share and deploymnet WCCP with GRE ?
