  • 1.  Why won't my External read during booting.

So Im using symantec ghost trying to boot a disk in a seperate laptop (Windows 7) so I can pull the image I've already had off of a serpate 2.5tb external HD. What I'm trying to figure out is why during the booting process does my external not show up. It shows up when i plug it in everytime and is completely accesible except during the boot process when i need to pull the image from the external. I've already tested smaller versions of externals@ 500g (of the same brand) and usbs and they show up just fine. That being said i've reformated to both NFST and exFat formats and still nothing. I've also tried partioning it and changing the drive formate letter. It says on here to just update the product and that'll fix it but i have to no avail. If anyone has any ideas I'd really appriciate it. If not i'm going to just buy a smaller external HD. I'd just hate for it to waste the money. Thx

    * What is the version of GSS?

    * How did you create the boot disk is it using PC-DOS or WINPE as Pre-OS?

It's GSS 2.5.1 and the boot disk is WINPE.

make sure you have added appropriate SATA drivers to WINPE boot template which is based on Windows Vista 32 bit kernel.

Follow the below article which will help you to add the drivers to WINPE database.

So is the external drive connected by USB ?  If so, is it connecting to a USB-2 port or a USB-3 port?

You should not require additional drivers on a USB-2 system but if you are running from a USB-3 port then drivers will be required.

Secondly, the largest "standard" partition you can create is 2Tb. To have a 2.5Tb single partition, it needs to be formatted as GPT (GUID Partition Table). For test purposes, you can create a single 2Tb partition and leave the rest pending further testing.

You don't mention a make for the external drive you are using, but for backup purposes cheap is never a good choice.
