What can I do to make my windows 2000 server compatible with SEP 12.1? it flags as "Unsupport OS", and I cannot create a v11 package from SEPM 12.1. Please advice, thanks.

Unfortunately it is not possible to manage the windows 2000 OS from SEP 12.1. You can install a SEP 11 unmanged client, but you will not be able to use the SEP 12.1 manager for content/policy updates.

Moving thread to the Endpoint Protection forum.

in your installation folder for SEP12  there is another one which contains SEP11 (must be RU6 somewhat)

    Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_12.1_RU1\SEPM\AdditionalPackages\

you can add this version by selecting: "add client install package"

    -choose a good description

-select the .info file to import

    -deploy to win2k clients

    kind regards

you can import the SEP 11 package into SEPM 12.1 , then use that package to export with teh policy and use that to install on windows 2000. SEPM 12.1 can manage SEP 11 client. Howevr you should think of upgrading Windows 2000 as it is already EOL from Microsoft.

    Unfortunately Thomas K is correct.

Server 2000 is no longer supported in 12.1

As stipulated above, you can create an unmanaged client in SEP 11.0.7 (preferred) for your servers.

Depends on your version of SEPM. If it is 12.1.671, you will need to add the SEP 11.0.7000 client to your SEPM from the "AdditionalPackages" folder found in the SEPM folder from your download.

If your SEPM is 12.1.1000, you should already have the legacy SEP 11.0.7000 client in: Admin>Install Packages>Client Install Packages

You CAN manage your W2K computers with a SEP 11.0.7 client on them from a SEPM 12.1/12.1RU1

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Cityboy,

You can create SEP 11.x package through SEPM 12.1

SEP 12.1 cannot be installed on this unsupported Windows 2000 OS, Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 can successfully protect Windows 2000 computers until they have been retired from the organization.

For such circumstances, a legacy SEP 11 client is included in the SEP 12.1 DVD .iso. ("SAVLegacy32.dat" in SEPM\AdditionalPackages)

SEP 11 clients can successfully be managed by a SEP 12.1 Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM).  A sylink.xml file from the desired SEP 12.1 client group can be imported ("dropped" or "replaced") on the SEP 11 client, enabling it to receive policies, definitions and other necessary communications from the SEPM.

I found v.11 package to import to the SEPM console, it's version 11.0.1000.2295, but the 2000 clients are at v.11.05002.333!

    1. Is there a way to upgrade this v.11 package to the latest version?

    2. How to convert manage clients to unmanage clients? and in this case, 2000 clients will get the update directly from symantec server?

    Thanks to all for responding!

Under <SEP 12.1 CD 1>:\SEPM\AdditionalPackages you'll find either a legacy SEP client v11.0.6300 (SEP 12.1.671) or a legacy SEP client v11.0.7000 (SEP 12.1.1000). SEP 11.0.1000 was completely outdated for years when SEP 12.1 emerged on the market.

For SEP version numbers, see this document:

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/what-are-symantec-endpoint-protection-sep-versions-released-officialy

    2. How to convert manage clients to unmanage clients?

As the others say, it's perfectly fine to protect W2000 servers with SEP 11 in a SEP 12.1 environment.  SEP 11 clients can be managed by SEP 12.1 SEPMs. Therefore, I don't know why you want to make an unmanaged client.

However, to convert an managed to an unmanaged client, update the client with the sylink.xml file from the SEP installation CD (folder SEP). See this document:

How to convert Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) clients from managed to unmanaged without uninstalling and reinstalling

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH104010

and in this case, 2000 clients will get the update directly from symantec server?

Can you elaborate more precisely? Unmanaged clients don't get any updates (or policies) from their SEPM, because they don't have any. They are stand-alone.
