Windows 7 32 and 64 bit machines are not reporting serial number in inventory even after full inventories are run. I thought I read somewhere that this could happen, but can't find it.

Running NS 6.0.6074 SP3 R13

Anyone see this happening?

Hi HamSalad (assuming that's your real name! ):

You need to be running Inventory Solution 6.1.2004, along with the core Altiris Agent 6.0.2416.  I see you have the R13 rollup installed, but I don't see mention of the Inventory Solution version.  Assuming you're using the default configuration and have 6.1.2004 installed (you can check in Solution Center) you will probably want to remove the 16bit serial number gathering method.  To do so, edit the AeXInvSolnAdm1.ini file and replace the AeXSNPlus line with the following:

aexsnplus.exe /NoSNData16 /output xml

Save the file and the next time the inventory runs (you can force the package to update, or just wait until the next day) you should see the Serial Number info reporting again.  This disables the 16bit serial number extraction routines, which will fail on a 64bit OS.

Anyhow...we are on 6.1.2004.

Will the above mod also enable the 32-bit Windows 7 machines to gather the correct inventory? The majority of our machines are 32-bit with only about 8 64-bit developer machines. Thanks!

Hi we have the same issue and currently using NS 6.0.674 I am looking in the solutions but cannot see SP3R12 - any pointers?

Our current agent on the clients is 6.0.283 is this okay.

I can see the inventory solution update 6.1.2004 our current version is 6.1.1075 but reluctant to upgrade if I don't have the core NS version correct.

yes, it should fix the Serial Number reporting.  The other possibility is you need the Hotfix version of AeXSNPlus.exe, version 6.1.2004.1.  You can download it from the KB:

Well, thanks, but we have since moved on to 7.1 and our old NS is being retired. Once way to "fix" it, I guess :)
