    Hi All,

Just though of checking in forum for this error code,

    Windows System Assessment Scan failed

UnknownException - There was caught unexpected exception during the tool operation.

what will be the reason for this code, is that an issue from agent end? or issue with the workstation end?

Unable to see any information in internet.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Siva

You will need to post the error codes to be certain. It's likely due to missing certs. https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.INFO4245.html . The specific mention of TECH239756 would be worth checking.

    Hi Brandon,

    Thanks for the comment.

I was verifying KB4019216(server 2012 ) installation in few servers and it was saying failed with the return code 1.

when I was verifying with the link for the retun code, it was showing as,

UnknownException - There was caught unexpected exception during the tool operation.

I was able to see the cert information in the machine. Also in some machines if I try to install the update manually(download history path), it says as "patch not applicable" but shows in the agent interface.

trying to collect the logs and raise a ticket but before that I would like to know whether I am facing this or any other customer facing the same issue? Just though of checking the status in forum.

    Hi Siva,

We would need to see the logs for this to diagnose it further in the forums. If you're running it manually and it is showing as not applicable, then it sounds like an issue that Symantec Support will need to know about. If this is the case then the update will be checked and reported to the correct team - it is usually resolved swiftly.

    Thanks

If the Assessment scan is failing on clients for generic reasons a good idea is to fully refresh the assessment scan:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO101482

You will need to stop services for a moment and run a FULL PMImport but you will have clean information and the possible corruption may be corrected.

    Hi SAM/Christina,

    Sorry for the delay response.

We run PMImport only once a month, May be that could be a reason for it .

when I check the installLog.csv file, I see the error codes 1073741819 and other one is -2145124329. Unable to find the reason for these codes.

I will right away check with the article provided and keep you both posted.

    Thanks again :)

Those are the codes I was asking about. I wrote a post about one of them, it's your task scheduler possibly. Check it out: https://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/pmimport-71-72-assessment-scan-and-patch-failures-march

In addition, since it sounds like you might be on a hardened system, you probably should check the wuauserv service and BITS service aren't disabled as well. That has caused me issues in the past.

I think these codes are both related to the Windows components of patching rather than the Altiris side of things: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/15260.windows-update-agent-error-codes.aspx
