  • 1.  Windows Explorer window displayed on Client

    Good morning,

    We are getting reports from a few clients that are getting a windows dialog box displaying at boot up or when rebooting.   The box dislplays C:\Program Files\Altiris and shows the express folder in the box.  It is not causing any real issues other than curiousity, which in the case of our field will cause a problem as word starts to spread. 

    We are using the Bootstrap agent to begin install.  I am running the console 6.5 and have CMS.  I cannot reproduce this in the lab nor does it happen on everyones mahcine.  Has anybody else run into this? 

    In the UI for the agent i can see in one of them where the full inventory failed but when i re-ran it it passed.  I ran the update and it completed with no new errors or new packages.  The other guy did not have any failures and is still getting the dialog box on boot up.  I remoted to his machine and checked the registry run keys to see if it was something there but i did not see anything that pointed to that directory.  I looked under local machine and User under software\Microsoft\currentversion\run and run once and runex.  Thanks for reading.

    I am assuming you are talking here about the NS agent install.  If not disregard the below info.

    If you look at the c:\windows directory, do you have a log file - AltirisAgentInstSvc.log file?  If you look at that what is the timing of the agent install details in the log in relation to the time at which the person logged on.  I am not aware of any issue here, but just wondering if somehow they are logging on during the actuall running of the NS agent install and that might be causing some interaction which opens the window.  However this is highly speculative.  I haven't ever tested or seen anything like this.

    NO luck on the log file.  What i have done is went into the aexswdusrui.exe and forced a sync.  I did this several times and made sure that all the tasks were complete.  I also checked the run and run once keys in the registry and did not find anything.  I also tried installing over the top of the agents to see if that would help and it did  not.   Any other thoughts?

    I went on the client PC and deleted that directory.  rebooted and it seems to have gone.  I then setup the system to recreate the full inventory.  We shall see if the box is displayed after the inventory is complete.  Thanks for the comment

    Which directory was it that you deleted?
