I'm currently running SMP 8.0 where originally Workflow got automatically installed when I was at 7.x.  For a while now, I had noticed that my Symantec Workflow Server service was failing to start after numerous SMP upgrades and attempts to fix it failed.  Now here's where I might've made a boo boo.  I ended up totally uninstalling Workflow Solution from my SMP server today where I'm told a fresh install would now be different compared to when SMP pulled it in with the rest of the CMS components via SIM.

If I don't plan on using Workflow Solution going forward, does anyone foresee problems with it NOT being installed on my SMP server now?  I'm under the impression that the other CMS components don't need Workflow to function (and it sure looks as though a fresh install of, say, SMP 8.0 wouldn't pull it in anyway) but wanted to see what others in the Connect forums thought about my predicament.

    Hi,

I have had problems during the upgrade from 7.1 to 7.5. On 7.1 it was supported to have WF designer/manager installed on the SMP server. From 7.5 onwords this is not supported anymore. If I recall correctly this is because some parts of WF are installed with the SMP install and that makes WF designer / manager to stop working as they are not upgraded with the SMP install process.

However, this was easily fixed by upgrading the workflow install after the SMP install has completed.

Anyhow, in your case this is the way it should be that you do not have WF designer / manager installed on you SMP server. And I would not see any problems going forward.
