Issue/Introduction

The Symantec Embedded Database service does not automatically start when the server hosting the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) boots. In addition, it cannot be manually started using the service control manager.

When trying to manually start the service, the user will see the following error: "The Symantec Embedded Database Service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."

Cause

Missing or corrupt files related to the embedded database are preventing the service from starting.

Resolution

This issue can be corrected via the following steps:

  1. Reboot the server.
  2. Run a repair install of the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager via Add or Remove Programs.
