What's new in Symantec Mail Security 7.5 for Microsoft Exchange

7.5.6 -- Build 7.5.6.152

• SMSMSE is now able to scan Online Archive mailboxes.
• Release from quarantine by email now includes the CC recipients in the quarantine release recipients list.
• SMSMSE can now be configured to no longer send notifications to senders is the list of "Trusted Domains and Users" without disabling all notifications in the Policies -> Exceptions settings.
• RapidRelease definition updates now occurr over an HTTP connection instead of FTP.
• Dependency on Visual C++ has been removed.
• The executable file true file type rule is no longer configured to block .msi files by default.
• The action to take for "Trusted Domains and Users" in the Policies -> Exceptions setting is now "Log Only" by default.
• The dependency on the RPC Locator service has been removed.
  

7.5.5 -- Build 7.5.5.128

• SMSMSE content filtering rules now supports attachment content matching inside container files.
• File type filtering has been added. This allows configurable detection of attachments by true file type, including within container files.
• Consolidated reports will now report servers that are offline at the time of report generation.
• SMSMSE now supports quarantining items without sending replacement text notifications to the original recipient(s) of the message.

7.5.4 -- Build 7.5.4.109

• SMSMSE now supports detection of Marketing Mail, Bulk and Newsletters as "Suspected Spam"
• The %information% variable has been extended to fill in replacement text for File Filtering violations.

7.5.3 -- Build 7.5.3.100

• SMSMSE now supports Microsoft Exchange 2016.

7.5.2 -- Build 7.5.2.94

• SMSMSE installer now supports installation to a multi-domain forest using single domain credentials.
• SMSMSE now supports the 7zip LZMA2 algorithm.
• SMSMSE 7.5.2 console is now certified to be compatible with Microsoft Windows 10 32-bit and 64-bit operating system.
• SMSMSE console now caches user credentials when authenticating to a large group of servers, significantly decreasing the time taken to load a server group.

7.5.1 -- Build 7.5.1.83

• The AntiSpam engine used by SMSMSE has been upgraded. Symantec AntiSpam Reputation services are now available in SMSMSE. To configure AntiSpam Reputation services, navigate to Policies -> Premium AntiSpam settings and check the box "Enable DNS IP Reputation".
• SMSMSE now uses a newer virus definition package that is significantly smaller than previous versions.

7.5.0 -- Build 7.5.0.56

• Console only upgrade is now supported: Previously, the console could not be upgraded between versions and instead needed to be uninstalled, then install the new version. Now the console can be upgraded from version 6.5 or 7.0 to 7.5 and the settings can be retained.
• SMSMSE is now able to define a different policy for unscannable files due to scanning limits or malformed container violations at a more granular level. In addition, administrators now have the option to exempt senders/domains from unscannable file policies. See Unscannable file handling options available with Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange 7.5 and later for details.
• The consolidated report feature for multi-server environments has been enchanced to support schedulable consolidated reporting rather than only on demand reports as before.
• New content filtering template for US Social Security Numbers.
• Improved failover times for Exchange 2007 Clusters.
• Transport agent status is now written to the application event log.
• Background scans have been enhanced to better handle large mailboxes. Additionally, background scan application event log entries include more details about the scan performed.
• SMSMSE now supports installation to the Exchange 2013 Edge role.

Resolved Issues

7.5.6 -- Build 7.5.6.152

• After upgrading to Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange 7.5.5, PDF files that previously passed without error are called unscannable
• Console settings for unscannable files are not honored after upgrading to Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange 7.5
• Encrypted File Rule Not Working for Password Protected Microsoft Office Documents in Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange.
• Replacement text of trusted domain or users of Exception rules is not working in SMSMSE 7.5.5 in some cases. This issue is now fixed.

7.5.5 -- Build 7.5.5.128

• Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) command-line install attribute "EMAILADDRESS" value is not changing the Notification Settings as expected.
• Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) console crashes with messages "A fatal error has occurred. The application will now close." when the file assets.xml is blank.
• Spam Score and Suspect Spam options are not available with screen resolution lower than 1280 by 1024 on Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange 7.5.4
• Multiple hotfixes for decomposer vulnerabilities have been incorporated into the base product
• In some cases, the action for the encrypted file rule is taken as "Quarantine" instead of "Log Only" as expected.
• Some properly formatted PDF files are listed as malformed.
• While generating a consolidated report, if one of the servers in the group is offline, the report generation process stops responding.

7.5.4 -- Build 7.5.4.109

• Legitimate messages are flagged as spam when the header size exceeds 32kb. Default maximum header size has been increased to 64kb for Premium AntiSpam scanning.
• Reports generated as a PDF cannot be opened by Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) 
• Temporary files are left behind in Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) ‘temp’ directory
• SMSMSE does not honor the newline (%n%) variable in the scanning limits section of the console.
• SMSMSE continually writes "Unable to copy the Symantec Premium AntiSpam license file to the licenses folder" in the application event log.
• Certain files are called unscannable when content filtering is enabled to scan Attachment Content or Any Part with Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) 
• Installing a Premium AntiSpam license with a start date some time in the future causes SMSMSE to no longer scan for Spam. This issue is resolved in SMSMSE 7.5.4

7.5.3 -- Build 7.5.3.100

• Minute field under Scheduled LiveUpdate contains 3 digits after settings file is imported.
• Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) scan processes (SAVFMSESp.exe) crash when processing certain message content.
• Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) SMTP scanning results in a memory leak in the MS Exchange Edge Transport Service
• Unexpected behavior when utilizing SSN# template in Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE)

7.5.2 -- Build 7.5.2.94

• When Installed to Exchange 2007, emails that are scanned in transit are not submitted for scanning during a manual scan.
• Content filtering configuration fails to display Active Directory groups with more than 1000 members.
• Policy deployment takes a long time when deploying settings to a group containing a large number of Exchange servers.
• Notifications generated during a manual scan contain incorrect folder information when a folder name contains a '/' character.
• SMSMSE will now completely reinitialize VSAPI if VSAPI times out during SMSMSE service start.

7.5.1 -- Build 7.5.1.83

• When a message is sent to a large number of recipients, SMSMSE does not perform name resolution queries against the recipients of the message, causing content filtering rules looking for user conditions to trigger erroneously.
• Manual scan configuration in Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSMSE) does not display all expected mailboxes when installed to a DAG (Database Availability Group).
• The Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) Service shuts down five (5) minutes after starting with Error Event ID 185 when Microsoft Exchange Information Store is not reading the VSAPI registry settings.
• Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) fails to release an item from Quarantine to an alternate recipient.
• Unable to modify notification settings for the Exceptions section of the Policies section in Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE)
•  When replying to or forwarding the replacement text email received when an item is Quarantined or Deleted and replaced with text, some characters are replaced with Double Byte Character set (DBCS) characters.

7.5.0 -- Build 7.5.0.56

• Reset to Factory Defaults Does not Work for Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE)
• When Premium AntiSpam is set to Reject Spam messages, Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange impacts inbound mail flow when installed to Exchange 2013
• Zero byte .tmp files are left in the Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) temp folder when the "Quarantine Entire Message" action is taken against a message.
• Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange installation fails with the error "Failed to verify user has mailbox" or "Failed to install SMSMSE transport agents"
