What's new in Symantec Mail Security 7.5 for Microsoft Exchange

7.5.6 -- Build 7.5.6.152

  • SMSMSE is now able to scan Online Archive mailboxes.
  • Release from quarantine by email now includes the CC recipients in the quarantine release recipients list.
  • SMSMSE can now be configured to no longer send notifications to senders is the list of "Trusted Domains and Users" without disabling all notifications in the Policies -> Exceptions settings.
  • RapidRelease definition updates now occurr over an HTTP connection instead of FTP.
  • Dependency on Visual C++ has been removed.
  • The executable file true file type rule is no longer configured to block .msi files by default.
  • The action to take for "Trusted Domains and Users" in the Policies -> Exceptions setting is now "Log Only" by default.
  • The dependency on the RPC Locator service has been removed.

  • SMSMSE now supports detection of Marketing Mail, Bulk and Newsletters as "Suspected Spam"
  • The %information% variable has been extended to fill in replacement text for File Filtering violations.

  • SMSMSE now supports Microsoft Exchange 2016.

7.5.2 -- Build 7.5.2.94

  • SMSMSE installer now supports installation to a multi-domain forest using single domain credentials.
  • SMSMSE now supports the 7zip LZMA2 algorithm.
  • SMSMSE 7.5.2 console is now certified to be compatible with Microsoft Windows 10 32-bit and 64-bit operating system.
  • SMSMSE console now caches user credentials when authenticating to a large group of servers, significantly decreasing the time taken to load a server group.

7.5.1 -- Build 7.5.1.83

  • The AntiSpam engine used by SMSMSE has been upgraded. Symantec AntiSpam Reputation services are now available in SMSMSE. To configure AntiSpam Reputation services, navigate to Policies -> Premium AntiSpam settings and check the box "Enable DNS IP Reputation".
  • SMSMSE now uses a newer virus definition package that is significantly smaller than previous versions.

7.5.0 -- Build 7.5.0.56

  • Console only upgrade is now supported: Previously, the console could not be upgraded between versions and instead needed to be uninstalled, then install the new version. Now the console can be upgraded from version 6.5 or 7.0 to 7.5 and the settings can be retained.
  • SMSMSE is now able to define a different policy for unscannable files due to scanning limits or malformed container violations at a more granular level. In addition, administrators now have the option to exempt senders/domains from unscannable file policies. See Unscannable file handling options available with Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange 7.5 and later for details.
  • The consolidated report feature for multi-server environments has been enchanced to support schedulable consolidated reporting rather than only on demand reports as before.
  • New content filtering template for US Social Security Numbers.
  • Improved failover times for Exchange 2007 Clusters.
  • Transport agent status is now written to the application event log.
  • Background scans have been enhanced to better handle large mailboxes. Additionally, background scan application event log entries include more details about the scan performed.
  • SMSMSE now supports installation to the Exchange 2013 Edge role.

  • When Installed to Exchange 2007, emails that are scanned in transit are not submitted for scanning during a manual scan.
  • Content filtering configuration fails to display Active Directory groups with more than 1000 members.
  • Policy deployment takes a long time when deploying settings to a group containing a large number of Exchange servers.
  • Notifications generated during a manual scan contain incorrect folder information when a folder name contains a '/' character.
  • SMSMSE will now completely reinitialize VSAPI if VSAPI times out during SMSMSE service start.
