Endpoint Protection

Issue/Introduction

You attempt to open Server Manager, Active Directory Administrator Center, or Hyper-V console. The process starts in Task Manager, but the GUI does not appear. You find that sysfer.dll is being injected in the process using ProcMon.

Environment

  • Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.2
  • Windows Server 2019

Resolution

This issue is fixed in Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.2 RU1. For information on how to obtain the latest build of Symantec Endpoint Protection, see Download the latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection

To work around this issue, create an Application Control exception for the following processes (as applicable to your case):

  • vmconnect.exe (Hyper-V Console)
  • dsac.exe (Active Directory Administrative Center)
  • servermanager.exe (Server Manager

To create an exception, please see How to create an Application Control exception or stop sysfer.dll injection into a process with SEP.
