Understand your entitlements

Regardless of which Symantec product you purchase and regardless of where you choose to deploy (on-premise, in the cloud or in a virtualized environment), you must be properly licensed with current Maintenance in order to access Maintenance benefits. Learn more.

Prior to expiration, you must renew your Maintenance according to how your product is licensed and per the terms of your product’s License Agreement:

  • Perpetual: You have purchased a perpetual software license with corresponding Maintenance for your Symantec software product. While this means that you have indefinite access to your software product for a specified quantity, access to the corresponding Maintenance benefits is only for the term and quantity defined by your Maintenance entitlement (usually one year). Prior to the expiration date, you must renew for continued access to your Maintenance benefits.
  • Subscription: You have purchased your Symantec product and corresponding Maintenance together on a subscription basis. This means that you have access to the product and the corresponding Maintenance benefits for the term and quantity of the subscription only. Prior to subscription expiration date, you must renew your subscription for continued access to both your product and your Maintenance benefits.

Maintenance is for a finite term

So that your organization can enjoy continued protection, optimized performance and uninterrupted access to Maintenance benefits, not to mention peace of mind, you must renew your Symantec Maintenance before it expires*, for the correct quantity of licensed product.

What happens if you don't renew

Once Maintenance expires, you automatically lose access to all of your Maintenance benefits, most importantly:

  • Critical content and product updates – you risk compromising your protection and running a sub-optimal product.
  • Version Upgrades – you will be required to repurchase the software license to establish the right to the latest version.
  • Hardware Support outside of warranty, hardware replacement and repair services won't be available.
  • Technical Support – you will no longer be able to log any technical support cases and phone support will be denied.

When it comes to security, you can’t afford not to renew

Remember, if your Maintenance expires, your organization is left vulnerable* and the path to remediation is compounded by foregoing access to Technical Support. The long-term implication of such risk can be devastating to most businesses, especially in terms of reputation and productivity.

The risk also includes financial exposure, as it costs more to buy new versions than it does to pay Maintenance; not to mention the high costs associated with a security breach.

Note that late renewals are subject to penalty and associated late renewal fees.
