Step through the 11th Century entrance to Hereford Cathedral, and you will be pointed towards the Mappa Mundi. An outstanding treasure of the medieval world, the map records how 13th Century scholars interpreted the world in spiritual as well as geographical terms. A few miles down the road, a different sort of map is being put together―not nearly as old, but one which is helping to share the future technology infrastructure for Herefordshire Council and other local public services. By standardizing on a comprehensive, integrated Symantec infrastructure (which includes NetBackup 7), the Council is avoiding significant investment in storage, ensuring a reliable disaster recovery strategy, and streamlining the management of its heterogeneous operating systems and hardware. It is also the gateway to an innovative nationwide public sector initiative―piloted in Herefordshire―for merging Council and Healthcare IT services.
