Demonstrating compliance with government regulations and responding to discovery requests were eating up valuable staff time and incurring outside costs for ING Investment Management, putting a drag on operations and profitability. In order to address these challenges, ING Investment Management embarked on a major IT initiative designated as Atlas, which included, among other elements, consolidation of a silo-based, disparate storage environment. The ING Investment Management team deployed a next-generation storage solution based on Network Appliance technologies. On a related issue, the team also identified email and document archiving, e-discovery, and compliance as critical areas to address. With the help of Symantec Consulting Services, the team deployed a solution based on Symantec Enterprise Vault and, more recently, worked with Symantec consultants to migrate their instant messaging environment to Symantec IM Manager. A Business Value Analysis Study by The Alchemy Solutions Group pinpointed millions of dollars in cost savings, productivity gains, and cost avoidance.
