Advantech DiagAnywhere is prone to multiple stack-based buffer-overflow vulnerabilities because it fails to adequately bounds-check user-supplied data before copying it to an insufficiently sized memory buffer. An attacker can exploit these issues to execute arbitrary code in the context of the application. Failed attacks will likely cause denial-of-service conditions. Advantech DiagAnywhere version 3.07.11 and prior is vulnerable.

Block external access at the network boundary, unless external parties require service.
Filter access to the affected computer at the network boundary if global access isn't needed. Restricting access to only trusted computers and networks might greatly reduce the likelihood of a successful exploit.
Run all software as a nonprivileged user with minimal access rights.
To reduce the impact of latent vulnerabilities, always run nonadministrative software as an unprivileged user with minimal access rights.
Do not accept or execute files from untrusted or unknown sources.
To reduce the likelihood of successful exploits, never handle files that originate from unfamiliar or untrusted sources.
Implement multiple redundant layers of security.
Various memory-protection schemes (such as nonexecutable and randomly mapped memory segments) may hinder an attacker's ability to exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code.
