Audit: Emule Server Update Request_1

Severity: Medium

This attack could pose a moderate security threat. It does not require immediate action.

Description

This signature detects traffic sent by an eMule client to a participating networked server.

Additional Information

eMule is an open source peer-to-peer filesharing client which is based on the eDonkey2000 protocol network.
peer-to-peer sharing software allows for ease of file distribution between networked users - including potentially copyright protected material.
This activity may not only use bandwidth but may also be used to transfer company confidential information to unauthorized hosts external to the protected network bypassing other security measures in place.
