DMZ (demilitarized zone)

A network added between a protected network and an external network to provide an additional layer of security. Sometimes called a perimeter network.

A security measure used by a company that can host Internet services and has devices accessible to the Internet; the DMZ is an area between the Internet and the internal network that prevents unauthorized access to the internal corporate network using a firewall or gateway. The Symantec Enforcer can operate in a DMZ providing limited network access so that Agents can connect to a server to update their systems if necessary.
