ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol)

An Internet protocol (defined in RFC 792) that is primarily for reporting errors in TCP/IP messages and exchanging limited status and control information.

Used to send error messages from networked computers.

An extension to the Internet Protocol (IP). It allows for generation of error messages, test packets, and the informational messages that are related to IP.
