threat

A circumstance, event, or person with the potential to cause harm to a system in the form of destruction, disclosure, modification of data, or denial of service.

An unwanted occurrence, such as a virus or a worm, that may result in harm to an asset. Threats often exploit vulnerabilities.

1. A virus, worm, mass-mailer worm, or Trojan horse. 2. A circumstance, event, or person with the potential to cause harm to a system in the form of destruction, disclosure, modification of data, or denial-of-service. See also virus.
