Description

Overview

The Symantec™ Enterprise Security Manager 9.0.1 Agent support on Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 Update provides information on the ESM 9.0.1 agents that you can install on Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7.

This update also provides patches for ESM Manager and Console to support the agents on Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7.

Symantec Response

Symantec has released downloadable MSI installers to install the ESM 9.0.1 agent on Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7. This update contains the following MSI installers:

Symantec has also released the following downloadable patches for the ESM Manager and Console to support the agent on Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7. The following patches are applicable only for ESM 9.0.1 consoles and managers.

Note: You must apply the manager and console patches, before you install and register the agent on Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7.
To apply the Windows ESM manager update


1. Extract the esmmanager.exe to a suitable location on your local computer
2. Stop the Symantec ESM Manager service.
3. Take a backup of esmmanager.exe from the following location:


<Installdir>\Enterprise Security Manager\ESM\bin\<<platform>

4. Replace the old binary with the binary extracted in step 1.
5. Restart the Symantec ESM Manager service.
To apply the ESM manager update on Solaris


1. Extract the following binaries to a suitable location on your local computer:
• esmcifd
• esmnetd
• esmd
2. Stop the ESM daemons by typing the following command:
/esm/esmrc stop
3. Take a backup of the binaries mentioned in step 1 above from the following location:
#esm/bin/<platform>/
4. Replace the old binaries with the binaries extracted in step 1 above.
5. Start the ESM daemons by typing the following command:
/esm/esmrc start
To apply the ESM console update


1. Extract the esm.exe to a suitable location on your local computer.
2. Close the running instances of ESM console.
3. Take a backup of esm.exe from the following location:


<Installdir>\Enterprise Security Manager\Symantec ESM Enterprise Console

4. Replace the old binary with the binary extracted in step 1.
5. Launch the ESM console.
