Description

Overview

The Symantec™ Enterprise Security Manager 6.5.3 SP2 Agent support on Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 Update provide information on the ESM 6.5.3 SP2 agents that you can install on Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7.

This update also provides patches for ESM Manager and Console to support the agents on Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7.
Information on Updates downloaded before July 19, 2010

This section only applies to the customers who downloaded the Symantec Enterprise Security Manager™ 6.5.3 SP2 Agent for Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 Update before July 19, 2010.

Some customers experienced the following issues with the ESM Agent:
    • Failed to install ESM 653 SP2 agent on Windows 2008 R2 – Core platform.

This issue has been fixed in the update for ESM 653 SP2 agents on July 19, 2010, which is available below.

Symantec Response


Symantec has released downloadable MSI installers to install the ESM 6.5.3 SP2 agent on Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7. This update contains the following MSI installers:

Download ESM 6.5.3 SP2 agent for Windows Server 2008 R2 X64 and Windows 7 X64

Symantec has also released the following downloadable patches for the ESM Manager and Console to support the agent on Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7. The following patches are applicable only for ESM 6.5.3 SP2 consoles and managers.

Note: You must apply the manager and console patches, before you install and register the agent on Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7.
To apply the Windows ESM manager update


1. Extract the esmmanager.exe to a suitable location on your local computer
2. Stop the Symantec ESM Manager Service.
3. Take a backup of esmmanager.exe from the following location:
<Installdir>\Enterprise Security Manager\ESM\bin\<platform>
4. Replace the old binary with the binary extracted in step 1.
5. Restart the Symantec ESM Manager Service.

To apply the ESM manager update on Solaris, HP-UX, and AIX


1. Extract the following binaries to a suitable location on your local computer:
• esmcifd
• esmnetd
• esmd
2. Stop the ESM daemons by typing the following command:
/esm/esmrc stop
3. Take a backup of the binaries mentioned in step 1 above from the following location:
#esm/bin//
4. Replace the old binaries with the binaries extracted in step 1 above.
5. Change the permission of the binaries you replaced in step 4 to be executable.
Type the following command:
chmod +x esmcifd
chmod +x esmnetd
chmod +x esmd
6. Start the ESM daemons by using the following command:
/esm/esmrc start

To apply the ESM console update


1. Extract the esm.exe to a suitable location on your local computer.
2. Close the running instances of ESM console.
3. Take a backup of esm.exe from the following location:
<Installdir>\Enterprise Security Manager\Symantec ESM Enterprise Console
4. Replace the old binary with the binary extracted in step 1.
5. Launch the ESM console.
