Adware.Searchexplorer adds various Internet Explorer buttons and a search field named Searching-4U.

When certain keywords are searched for in the Searching-4U field, various advertisements can appear on the system. This adware can track various browsing habits. It also has a possible silent update feature.

When Adware.Searchexplorer is installed, it does the following:
  1. Creates the folder named C:\Program Files\Search-Explorer, and then adds the Explbar.dll file to that folder.

  2. Creates the folder, C:\Program Files\Searching-4U, which contains the End User License Agreement (EULA) and the Uninstall.exe file.

  3. Adds the registry keys:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SearchExplorer.SearchExplorerObj

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SearchExplorer.SearchExplorerObj1

    HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\Software\Searching-4U

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\SearchExplorer.SearchExplorerObj

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\SearchExplorer.SearchExplorerObj1

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Searching-4U

    HKEY_USERS\Software\Searching-4U
