  • 1.  How to restore SEPM 12.1 Database from a sem5.db file

    Posted Jul 24, 2014 05:05 AM

    Hi everyone,

Recently our Symantec Embeded database can not be start and I have to uninstall and reinstall the SEPM (version 12.1 on windows server 2008 R2). I just follow this article: http://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/how-perform-disaster-recovery-without-database-backuprestore

After reinstall all clients and policies gone. However we still got the backup of sem5.db that working fine couple days ago from our HPDP backup system. The SEPM Database Backup and Restore Tool only allow us to restore on .zip file that created by itself (.db file is not allowed).  Does anybody know how to restore the embeded database from sem5.db file?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

You need .zip file to perform database restore, only with the help of sem5.db it's not possible.

You can perform a disaster recovery without a database backup, but the following points apply in this case:

    1)  All policies must be re-created, or imported from other backups i.e. exported policy files.
    2)  Clients will be able to communicate with the SEPM but will re-appear in the console only after their next check-in.
    3)  Clients will reappear in the default group as they check in, unless you enable automatic creation of client groups on the re-installed SEPM by editing "scm.agent.groupcreation=true" to the conf.properties file. This file is located <drive>Program files or(x86)/Symantec/Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager/tomcat/etc.
    4)  If you originally had multiple SEPM domains beyond the default domain, you must re-create them using domain IDs from Backup.txt.
